An avid boater and dedicated community leader, Everett
Dunkerley began his career working for NCR (National Cash Registers)
as a field technician just after World War II. He quickly rose to
Regional Service Manager and by 1947, he had become the Northeastern
Service Manager. In 1950, Mr Dunkerley opened his own NCR register
dealership and worked out of a mobile service unit. Soon after, Mr.
Dunkerley came to realize that he needed a storefront for his continually
growing office machine service business. In addition, he saw the need
to expand his business beyond just office machines, but into machine
and general office supplies. The first store was opened in Bayport,
Long Island and soon expanded to include a second store in Sayville.
Everett Dunkerley quickly learned the potential of his business and
saw a great opportunity to expand to the East End of Long Island.
In 1960, a young sewing-machine/oil salesman answered a help-wanted
sign posted in the window of the Sayville store. Not long after, Mr.
Dunkerley, his two sons, Mel and Roger, along with this salesman named
Harold "Tiny" Wilson decided to explore the potential on
the East End. Everett Dunkerley sent "Tiny" from Sayville
to the East End everyday to drum up business and in less than a year,
E.B. Dunkerley & Sons Inc. opened their doors on Hill Street in
Southampton. Five years later, the store moved to 70A Main Street,
a much larger location to accommodate the ever growing business. In
1975, Mel Dunkerley built our current location at 137 Main Street.
Mel Dunkerley retired in 1988 and Harold "Tiny" Wilson's
son, also Harold, along with a partner Layton Dempsey, took the reigns.
Twelve years later, Layton Dempsey also retired and Harold Wilson
has been running the corporation ever since.
Everett Dunkerley founded this business on the principles of honesty,
sincerity, fairness and hard work and our goals are the same. We want
